What Does The Bible Say About Family Trees And Genealogies?
The Bible has a lot to say about a lot of things. Other things it does not go into details. One pastor wrote a book going into details about what goes on in the bedroom. In fact, the Bible leaves a lot to the husband and wife regarding intimacy and love between a husband and wife. Maybe not something that needs to be detailed? But the Bible does talk about genealogies.
Some religious groups go into intricate details regarding investigations on the blood lines of people, their family trees, or genealogies. In fact, one religious group dives deep into the study of people’s genealogies as a way to support their ‘baptism of the dead’ doctrine which is spiritual error based on one scripture in the Bible (1 Corinthians 15:29).
Their teaching says that if someone dies without Jesus Christ and salvation, they can be ‘saved’ by a proxy baptism of a living person on their behalf years later. The problem is once you leave your body, you are present with the Lord. (2 Corinthians 5:8), or forever condemned to the hell you choice by rejecting Christ. In Acts 16:31, we’re told to “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved– you and your household.” Once you’re dead it’s good late.
Distractions of studying the genealogies of living people and their ancestors is nothing new. In fact, Pastor Timothy was told in 1 Timothy 1:4 not to get caught up into their fruitless religious exercise. Of course, it is interesting to see the origin of your mother and father, grandparents, where they were actually born and how people got to the nation they are in now. There can be spiritual chains that need to be broken if you have relatives that were in witchcraft or other demonic activities (Leviticus 20:6, Leviticus 20:27, Revelation 21:8).
In general, the only thing you need to be concerned about is your own salvation and growth and those of your living family. After all, 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, that when we are saved we are a new creation. The old things have passed away, all things (your spirit) has become new.
