How Can You Help Someone Who Has Renounced Their Faith As A Christian?
With mass media and the internet, it is easy for the word to spread about things. Many times we have heard about someone who has ‘renounced their faith’, Christianity, believing the Bible, or following Jesus Christ. This is when you wonder about those people who teach that once you are saved, you’re always saved. Are the renouncers always saved?

Following Jesus is absolutely the most important decision of your life. Eternal life with Jesus, or eternal death with the forces of darkness. Heaven or hell. It’s your choice. It is sad when we hear about people who have “renounced their faith”. The first question to ask, is did they have any Bible faith to start with? Hebrews 11:1. Secondly, you wonder what happened to the person that influenced them throw away heaven and eternal life with eternity, for a stinking dark place filled with evil people. Did they get divorced? Did they lose a loved one and believe some type of Dark Ages Mentality thinking?
If we think about it, Jesus says many are called but few are chosen (Matthew 22:14). God wants all people to come to Him, but they must choose Him. We see that clearly repeated in 1Timothy 2:4 and 2 Peter 3:9.
We must remember that Jesus preached to tens of thousands of people, healed and delivered thousands, and raised the dead; but yet on the day of Pentecost, there were only 120 people in that upper room (Acts 2). The answer to all life’s questions are in the Bible.
Jesus teaches us in Mark 4:1-8, as well as Matthew 13, that there are four responses by people to the Gospel. The four conditions of the heart are
• Seed by that fell by the wayside- those who outright reject the Gospel and eternal life
• Seed that fell on the stony ground- those who accept the Gospel, but quickly fall away and die spiritually
• Seed that fell among the thorns- those who accept Jesus but are choked out by the things of this world.. money, fame, relationships
• Seed that fell on good ground- those who accept the Gospel and embrace it fully. That’s you and I!
If you hear about someone who has ‘renounced’ their faith in God. Don’t be surprised. God isn’t. Pray for them that the Holy Spirit would convict their heart. Pray that wherever they go, they will be met by Spirit-filled, Bible believing Christians who talk about Jesus. And if you know them personally, just love the ‘hell’ out of them.
Do you know Jesus?
Do you have God’s power in your daily life?
