Do People Have Power Over Demons, Devils, and Unclean Spirits?
Human beings are a three part being. We must understand that we are spirit, we have a soul, and we live in a body (more on that here). When a person passes away, that is not the end. It is the beginning of their eternity. Just because someone says that they are a Christian does not mean they will be in Heaven (see Two Types Of Christians ), the key is knowing God and spending time with Him. Humans are spirit-beings because the center of our existence is the spirit, which incidentally is made in the image of God (Genesis 1:26,27). Human beings are spirit-beings living in a body… an earth suit. Once your earth suit dies, you have no right to continue life on earth. For believers, the Word of God says, absence from the body is presence with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8). That means if you know Jesus, when you pass from your body (‘die’ or pass away) you will be with God in Heaven, above the earth. For those who reject Jesus Christ as God, they will be damned to eternal separation from God in never ending unimaginable torment.
With this in mind, we must realize that our life as a spirit began when we were conceived by our father and mothers. That is the beginning of life. There was no life before your conception (What does the Bible say about reincarnation here)
Where Do Demons Come From?
Many students of the Bible believe that demons are fallen angels based on Revelation 12:7-9 and Jude 1:6-7 much like lucifer who was a fallen angel that became the enemy of mankind (due to his jealousy of God and God’s creation man). In the reading of Jude, some question that demons are fallen angels as they are frequently described as unclean spirits by the Lord Jesus in the New Testament. Based on the Gap Theory (more on that here), some believe that demons or unclean spirits are beings from a pre-Adamic earth. Regardless of their origin, demons, devils, unclean spirits, ghosts, have the same goal. To kill steal and destroy human beings who are the inheritors of salvation (John 10:10)
Do Humans Have Power Of Demons?
If a person is saved (Romans 10:8,9), YES! If a person is not a child of God, the answer is no. Jesus says repeatedly that He has given all authority to believers in the heavens (the skies above us) and on earth. This is authority to heal the sick, raise the dead, and cast out devils (Acts 10:38). Christians are not here to be steam rolled by the devil and demons. We have been placed above them and when we know our authority they must obey us (Ephesians 1:21, Matthew 28:18-20, Matthew 11:27, Philippians 2:9, Colossians 2:10, Matthew 28:19, 1 Peter 3:22, John 3:35, Ephesians 1:20, Colossians 1:15-18).
Since God has given you authority over demons, there is no reason why you should put up with them. They try to control people through addiction, depression, arrogance, drugs, alcohol, sex outside of marriage, homosexual activity, pride, unforgiveness, and many other vices. Do give place to devils in your life (Ephesians 4:27).
Humans have power of demons (devils, unclean spirits, AKA ghosts) if they are believers and recognize the Lord Jesus has won back the authority over the world that Adam lost (Genesis 1:26-28) and use that God given authority. Just as Jesus cast out demons, so should you. It is easy. Ask the Holy Spirit, then speak to those devils you come across and tell them, “In the Name of Jesus, the Son of God, I command you to be gone in that powerful Name of Jesus. You shall never return”. Then make sure that the person you have just gotten free (sometimes called delivered or deliverance) is fill with God, so they to can fight off the evil in this lost world.
God is good! At the Name of Jesus the Messiah, every knee, both human and demon, will bow at the name of the Most High God (Philippians 2:10,11)
