Do Pets Have Souls That Go To Heaven?
This is a big question we receive a lot from many people. Do pets go to heaven? God owns the Earth and He has entrusted the Earth and it’s contents to humans. The enemy came and tricked Adam and Eve out of the authority we had in the Garden of Eden in Genesis chapter 3. Jesus came and took back the authority over the earth for those who have received His salvation and follow Him.
People love their pets. We love our cats, dogs, turtles, parrots, and the various pets that we spend time with in our life. However, the fact is, the Bible doesn’t say much about our animals going to heaven or not.
In heaven, we know that there are trees, rivers, streets, buildings, walls, gates, people, food, and animals of all sorts. Jesus returns to the earth on a horse in Revelation 19:14. The earth is an imperfect or corrupted copy of heaven. Heaven has everything you have here and more. What there is not is there are no thieves, liars, rapists or any other types of sexual sinners.
The point is we are made in God’s image, in His likeness according to Genesis 1:27. Humans are three part beings according to the Bible. We are spirits, we have a soul (our mind, will and emotions) and we live in this body according to 1 Thessalonians 5:23. Humans are spirit, soul, and life in a body. Animals are not made and God’s image and they don’t have a spirit. But they very clearly have a soulish area as they can feel pain (emotions), many can think (with the mind), and if you have ever ridden a young horse you have definitely seen animals can have a strong will. The difference with humans is animals do not reason like us. Nor does the Bible say anything about animals having sin like us.
Will I See My Dog In Heaven?
We really don’t know what happens to animals when they die. We know that humans must be redeemed by accepting the work of Jesus, but the Bible is silent on animals. Romans 8:20,21 indicates that the world was corrupted by mankind in the Garden and the whole earth was submitted to that corruption. The will be redeemed from “the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God”.
God saw His creation in Genesis and said it was good. He loves us and made an amazing creation in the Earth including animals. The Word (Bible) says God wants to give us our heart’s desires in Psalm 37:4, and at the same time Psalm 84:11 says that God “will withhold no good thing from those who walk uprightly”. Enjoy your pets while they are with you and trust God with the rest.
