Is ‘Pleading The Blood Of Jesus’ In The Bible?
For any student of the Bible, hearing the phrase, “Plead the Blood of Jesus” for various situations in life may sound strange. The reason is generally because talking about blood is not always a positive thing. Also, the ‘pleading of the blood of Jesus over _______ ‘ (fill in the blank) is a phrase that was popular in the 1970s but is not in the Bible and not repeated anymore. It’s not pleading the blood of Jesus, it’s being covered by the blood of Jesus.
Believers Are Covered
As a follower of Jesus (AKA Christian) we must understand that Jesus shed His blood and gave up His body for every one of us. The important thing is that His death and resurrection only apply to those who receive Him by the confession of their mouths and believing in their hearts (Romans 10:8,9). There is a redeeming quality to the blood of Jesus. In Exodus chapter 12, we see how the blood of innocent lambs was put on the door frames of the houses of the people of God so that death passed over them. Animal blood covers sins in the Old Testament. The Lord Jesus blood, shed on the cross, covers and completely washes away all sin for any human. It only comes to those who accepts that covenant with God. It is common to hear Spirit-filled believers pray, “I cover my family with the blood of Jesus.” The blood over Jesus is our covering and our cleansing. We pray the covering of God’s blood for people, not things.
People who are not Spirit-filled may not understand the power of the blood of Jesus (remember blood is our life) or be put off by hearing someone say they ‘cover someone with the blood of Jesus’ because they don’t understand. Ephesians 1:7 clearly says that we have redemption (complete rectification in our relationship with God the Father) through the blood of Jesus. In teaching us to take communion Jesus says,
And He said to them, “This is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many.
– Mark 14:24 (NKJV)
By the blood of Jesus, we are made right before God. Hebrews 12:24 says,
to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.

After all, Revelations summarizes it beautifully saying believers overcome by the Blood of Jesus and the word of our testimonies.
Revelation 12:11 says, And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.
