Is The Bible Filled With Violence And Depravity?
Many people in the world talk about the Bible. Some have read it, some have not. Some have read parts of the Bible and made conclusions about the whole book based on the part that they have read, and their personal interpretation of it.
The Bible is made up of 66 books that 2 Timothy 3:16 tells us were written by humans who were under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Those 66 books are divided into two parts, the Old Testament and the New Testament. The reason for the division between the Old and New comes down to one world changing person that altered the course of all of history. His name is Jesus the Messiah, Jesus Christ, Jesus the Anointed One. The supernatural birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus is the complete difference between the Old and New Testaments. The resurrection of Jesus Christ changed the world and all of history as the church He promised in Matthew 16:17 came into being following Him meeting His friends in Acts Chapter 2, showing that He was no common man, Jesus is the Son Of God.
Those With, And Those Without
From the beginning book of Genesis to the final book of the New Testament, Revelation, the lives of those who live for God are contrasted with those who do not. It is very clear that every human being is given a choice in life. Deuteronomy 30:15 tells us to choose life or death, blessings or cursings. In Deuteronomy 30:16, we see that God’s heart is to bless His people but His people are the people that choose to follow Him. Those that chose death are on their own. Those that choose life must make keep a relationship with God the Father.
What About The War, Famine, And Incest?
The Old Testament gives many examples of life without God. It shows historical examples of people that shunned God and what happened to them. It also frequently shows what people without God are like. You read about rape, incest, sex outside of marriage, robbery, physical abuse, gluttony, drunkenness, and just about every other thing that happens when people reject God or fall away from Him. Does the recording of the event mean that the Bible is promoting this debauchery? Certainly not. It shows how lost people without God, or who don’t listen to Him, really are.
The Old Testament shows humankind before Jesus. Animals had to be sacrificed and blood shed, to cover the sins of the people so that they could approach God. Hebrews 10:4 tells us that the blood of animals cannot take away our imperfections that keep us from God. They can only cover. 1 John 1:7 tells us the the blood of Jesus doesn’t just cover sin, it cleanses us completely from every sin we could possibly have. Unlike the covering of animal’s blood, Hebrews 9:13 tells us that the blood of Jesus also cleanses our consciences.
Listen To Those Who Know
No, the Bible is not evil or filled with depravity. However, the Bible shows the world is what is filled with those things. A few days of reading or watching news will reveal that pretty quickly.
Those who tell you the Bible is filled with contradictions or denounce the Bible clearly have no understanding of the scriptures or history. They see that the Old Testament laws are strong and compare to their weak societal laws where you can murder someone and pay no price for taking someone else life. Stealing is okay as well as long as no one gets hurt. The moral standard changes as the societal norms degenerate. Eventually, the society implodes giving way to the rise of the next empire. Isaiah 40:8 summarizes it all so beautifully, the grass withers and the flower fades, but the Word of the Lord stands forever!
Rather than listen to the lost, listen to the people who have found the way. Know Jesus TODAY.
