What Should I Do When I Feel, Bored, Empty, Or Without God’s Direction?
One beautiful thing about being a human is that we have emotions. To be exact, we are spirit beings made in the image of our Father God, we have a body, and a soul. Humans are made up of three parts, spirit, soul, and body according to 1 Thessalonians 5:23. Our soul area is made up our mind, will, and emotions. We’re not machines that do as we are programmed but beings who have feelings or emotions. Sometimes with our feelings, we can hit the emotional mountain tops, and other times we can be in the valley of despair with no hope. The only way to experience true fulfillment emotionally as a human is by knowing Jesus. Only Jesus, and receiving Him, can bring imperfect humans to a daily relationship with the Almighty (perfect!) God. If you don’t know Him, receive him now.
After you’ve received Jesus, you’ve probably noticed that your feelings have not gone away. From 2 Corinthians 5:17, we know that when you receive Jesus your spirit is completely new before God. The next step is getting baptized in the Holy Spirit so you have God’s power to live every day. Even after accepting Jesus and being baptized in the Holy Spirit human emotions don’t go away. We have emotional ups and downs. For the believer, life is so much better when we learn how to deal with the ups and downs.
How Do I Deal With Boredom Or Emptiness?
You can be a Spirit-filled follower of Jesus and experience emotion times of emptiness, sometimes even boredom. As believers we must learn how to control our emotions. Jesus taught us to control our situation by what we say in Mark 11:22-25. What you talk about is where your thoughts go. Jesus taught us to speak to the mountain, in this case problem or challenge, and tell it to get out of the way. Jesus is not saying talk to yourselves in the street so people think you are crazy. Believers have to control our emotions. We do that by controlling what we think. 2 Corinthians 10:5 tells us that we have to take every thought we have ‘captive’. That means control what you think about. If you think you are bored, you will be bored. If you feel empty and talk about it, it will get worse because that talking and thinking is a vicious circle.
What Can I do To Fill The Void?
What you think is what you talk about. If you want to change what you think, you have to change what say. Say what you are expecting. For those times you feel emotionally down you should first and foremost make sure that you are doing these five things. In addition, you can do some other things. Romans 10:17 shows us that our faith is built by how much we listen and mediate on the Word of God through great Bible teachers. So when you feel empty, here are some great ways to fill up your spiritual tanks.
- Play great strong faith Bible teachers messages. While you work, clean, cook, and do other daily tasks surround yourself with the Word
- Permeate your environment with worship- Place Spirit-filled worship music
- Speak out loud- “I am satisfied, fulfilled, and joyful because the Lord is my strength”.
- Meet another strong believer for a meal or drink and talk about what the Lord has done in your life so far.
The more time you spend with God and the people who know Him, the fewer times of emotional downs and emptiness you will have. The deeper your relationship with God, the more you will realize how God acting in your life each day. The times of emptiness may come again, but you know how to battle them and make your life a spiritual high as you live in God’s presence every day.
