Does A Person Have To Stop Sinning To Go To Heaven?
If you have accepted Jesus as your Savior, then you are on the right track. If you’ve not received Jesus now, Know Jesus TODAY.
Simply Put, What Is Sin?
Sin is a term that comes from archery. When an archer would pull back the arrow in the bow that was aimed at a bull’s-eye target, they were trying to hit the middle of the target. When the arrow missed the center of the target, the archer would say they “sinned” or missed the mark. Sinning is when you miss the mark with God.
Only One Perfect
God is perfect, infallible, perfect, complete, without any error, everywhere at one time, over all in our world as well as Heaven, He has no beginning and He has no end… simply put, God is awesome. He doesn’t make mistakes. Humans, we are limited, imperfect, and sometimes so foolish to fall back into the same traps of life. In 2 Corinthians 5:21, we are called the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. That means, that the Lord Jesus’ death and resurrection on our behalf has rectified and made us right before God. It doesn’t mean that we are perfect.
When You Sin
When you screw up (make a mistake, or sin), we have 1 John 1:9 that tells us to confess our sin and get right with God. We know that the Holy Spirit convicts of sin from what Jesus tells us in John 16:8. When the Holy Spirit convicts you of sin, you need to confess it and repent which means turn 180 degrees and run from it. You must decide which is more important, your relationship with God, or that sin you have.
How Can I Control Myself?
If you have a problem with eating too much, drinking, drugs, speaking ill of people, sexual sin, stealing, or any other sin, the first thing you must do is recognize your sin. Most sin comes from our mind. We have to change the way we think. In fact, Romans 12:2 says, we must renew our minds. That means completely change the way we look at the problem. If you eat too much (gluttony) then you have to change your way of thinking so that you stop eating so much. If you continue sinning in this way, does it mean that you are not going to heaven? The answer to that questions depends on what the sin is. The blood of Jesus covers all the sins we can do. If God keeps imperfect people out of Heaven, none of us would make it. But there is something we have to beware of.
Sexual sin is sin that the Bible calls sinning against your own body. You can read more about sexual sin here. If you are in fornication, homosexuality, or other sexual sin, the Bible is very clear that those people will not be in Heaven.
