Does God Take Us Through Spiritually Dry Places?

Living on this earth is no easy job.  We know from John 10:10 that Jesus died and rose from the dead to bring us life, AND that life is abundant.  However, abundance and blessings are something that is a choice of the believer.  Lazy believers may get fat and do not prosper.  Faith without action is dead. The Bible tells us that the hand of the diligent makes rich (Proverbs 10:4).  Many churches spend a long time asking for money in the pre-offering mini-messages but if you teach the Word of God, believers will give joyfully and generously.

Lazy People Won’t Prosper No Matter How Much They Give

Just as lazy believers will not walk in abundance, our places in life depend on our spiritual expectation… it’s based on our levels of faith.  (Here’s how to get faith).  Some Christians have heard their pastors or leaders talking about “spiritually dry places”, “spiritual valleys” or both.  They essentially teach that God brings people through “dry places”.  The most commonly used example used to illustrate is Job, a man who blamed God for his problems at first.  Once he stopped blaming God, he got restored.

Does God Lead Us To Spiritual Dry Places?

If you are a avid student of the Bible and spend a lot of time with the Lord, the Holy Spirit will show you that God leading you to a spiritual valley is just not true.

God is amazing, He is light, He is beautiful and He has nothing to do with darkness.  If a Christian is going through a spiritually dry time or “valley” in their life, it is NOT God who put them in that place.  We are walking around in a corrupt world.  We must be led by the Spirit of God to stay above it.  Those who are led by the Holy Spirit will make fewer mistakes and know what to do when a situation arises.  We make winning choices because we have faith.  1 John 5:4 tells us that we have the victory in life with our faith.  We are to walk by faith and not by what we see.  If you go by what you see, you’re going to fail.  If you walk by faith, you’re going to win.

Psalms 23:4 talks about walking through the valley of the shadow of death.  Yes, we can get near some nasty things in life.  Again, that is not God’s plan.

Don’t Buy The Lie

Don’t believe the “I’m walking through a spiritual valley right now” teaching.  Even if your pastor, minister, bishop, or Bible Study teacher says it.  Just because they fell in a pit doesn’t mean it’s God’s plan.  Trust God and draw near to Him.  He will never put you into a jam, it’s usually us that do that.

However, God will certainly get you out of any mess as we know from Jeremiah 33:3, where God says, “Call to Me I will answer and show you my salvation”.  He will save you from any situation.  However, His plan is that you walk by your spirit (the voice of your spirit is your conscience) that is in tune with His Holy Spirit.  How can anyone in tune with God end up in a hole?  They can’t!

It’s time to erase the “I’m walking through a spiritual dry place” teaching from our thinking.  If you want to be a champion, you must train with the champions.  The spiritual champions in life are those who walking close to God and know His voice.
