Why Are So Many Mormons Leaving The Church of Joseph Smith of Latter Day Saints?

Mormonism is a religion very loosely based on the teachings of Jesus Christ modified by Joseph Smith (What Is the difference between Mormons and Committed Christians?). Mormons are nick-named for the angel Moroni. The first and foremost problem, biblically, is ‘Moroni’ was supposedly an angel, but the error comes when you find out that The Book of Mormon teaches that this angel was originally a man. Men and angels are different beings. Mankind is made in God’s image (Genesis 1:27), where angels are ministering spirits ( Hebrews 1:14) that God created to help people. Praise God for the angels He created. They are a huge help to people beyond what we even understand. Men do not become angels. Yet, Joseph Smith founds his religion based on an ‘angel’ that he falsely claimed was a man. Every good lie must have a bit of truth to be believable. Whatever is done in the darkness will come to the light.

The Problem With Joseph Smith
Sadly, Mormonism is a cult as Joseph Smith teaches that his religion is the only way to God. (A cult would be defined as a closed group that rejects those outside of their group and deny the true Jesus Christ is the only way to God. Note there are many Christian denominations all united under the fact that Jesus is God). Some may call Mormonism a ‘Christian’ cult due to Smith’s heavy editing and plagiarism of the Bible. Just a little bit of research will review the many errors of this false teaching. An honest Mormon will want to understand the origins of their group. If something is good, it would be because it was built on goodness. Archeologists, linguists, and historians agree that Mormonism is a religious fantasy made up by Smith. Once honest people buried in the religion begin to research the background of the religion, their belief in the religion is shaken. Some will continue to turn a deaf ear and a blind spiritual eye to the inconsistency.

Why are people leaving the so called ‘church’ of Joseph Smith?

1. The whole religion is based on baptism of the dead which is unbiblical. Salvation is something you must do NOW (Romans 10:8,9), not something you can achieve after your death or something someone else can do for you. Living Mormons going to their temple and being immersed in water as a proxy baptism on behalf of dead people is a complete waste of time. Your eternity is decided by you, while you are on this earth. After you depart your body, it is too late.
2. Mormonism is works-oriented. It is pay to play. Tithing (giving a percentage of your income) and giving offerings is Biblical (Malachi 3:8-10), but true Jesus people are told to give to God (their local church) because they want to (2 Cor 9:6-8). The Joseph Smith cult requires members to tithe in order to access God. This is no different than the evil leaders in the Catholic church that required people to pay indulgences in order to have their sins forgiven. Mormons are required to pay to play. No pay, no access to their ‘temple’ which is required to access God, perform weddings, and other ceremonies that are falsely followed. Mormons who do not pay lose their ‘temple recommend’, and essentially their ’salvation’
3. The religion is factually false. The key people groups talked about in the Book of Mormon, Pearl of Great Price, Doctrine of Covenants did not exist. The battles that supposedly happened in North and South America did not happen (there is no historical or archeological evidence to verify the events did indeed happen). Fighting with swords and other metal weapons did not happen as the people did not have them at the time of the supposed events.
4. Mormons burn out. Most religion is based on ‘being good and doing good works. The Lord Jesus Christ came to make ‘us right before God through grace (Ephesians 2:8,9). No one can get to God based on what they do alone. You cannot work your way to Heaven and eternal life. Therefore, just like any other false religion, Mormons are never sure if they are saved or not saved. The Bible is VERY clear that if you trust and know Jesus, you are saved and will forever be a part of God’s family.
5. The church of Joseph Smith of ‘latter day saints’ teaches that they are the ONLY true church. They have no power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:1) with no super natural gifts such as healing, speaking in tongues [Praying in the Spirit ], or any other type of signs or wonders that make any true Church of Christ a place where people need to be.

In addition to the above five areas. Many former cult members had varying other reasons for their departure from Smith’s church. Especially those who have met real, committed believers, have begun to question Mormon leadership that claims to be the only true church (What Are the Two Types of Christians? ). As the Mormon church leadership is no different than any other religion (Check out What is the Connection Between Islam and Mormonism?) there are many people leaving the Mormon group every year. Just being a good student of the Bible, any honest person will discover Mormonism to be the Church of Joseph Smith who made up a different Jesus, a different Holy Spirit, and various other things. Smith rewrote himself into the Bible book of Isaiah trying to frame himself as a prophet… to make a profit. The problem was that he was nearly 3,000 years too late and uninspired. Besides, without God, religion is just uninspired babble of men(1 Corinthians 13:1).

There is hope for those coming out of Mormonism! God loves you and has an amazing plan for you. Turn from the false Gods of Smith to Almighty God who made Heaven and Earth right now.
