Is God Okay With People Watching Sex Scenes In Movies, Television, And On The Internet?
Society has certainly changed. What used to be underwear is now called a swimsuit. The ladies’ swimsuits of the early 1900s used to cover more, and reveal less skin. The same goes for love scenes in video. Before not even a passionate looking kiss was allowed. With time, video production companies (movie producers and directors) pushed the standard and tried to show more and more.
Love scenes went from a simple kiss goodnight, to a passionate kiss, then the cameras went into the bedroom. Actors and actresses then played out scenes of sexual intercourse, or as some call it, “making love”. With time, the scenes have become more and more erotic as as producers, directors, and video companies want to make more money, constantly pushing the line. There are spiritual forces behind this push of sex.
What Does God Think About Us Watching Sex?
Sexual intimacy is a wonderful thing between a husband and a wife (read about that here), but is sex something we should be watching? Proverbs 4:20-23 tells us to guard our heart because that is where all of life’s issues come from. In Matthew 5:28, the Lord Jesus tells us that we are not to look at someone and desire them sexually. He says, if we do so it’s as if we have had sex with them. We have sinned. David’s watching the neighbor’s wife bathe, turned into adultery. King Solomon’s hundreds of wives and concubines were the reason he fell away from God and wrote, “vanity, vanity, life is but vanity” in Ecclesiastes 1. We should never marry an unbeliever (non-Christian).
In John 4:16-18 Jesus has a word of knowledge (see Gifts of the Holy Spirit) that the woman He met at the well near the Samarian town of Sychar has sexual relationships with many men. She was shocked that He knew, despite meeting her the first time, and she was ashamed of what she was doing.
Sex is wonderful. It’s a beautiful act fulfilling the love of a husband and wife. It’s not something that you and I need to watch other people doing. If our predecessors saw what we were watching, they would be shocked. But realize, the Almighty God is more holy, pure, and awesome than any of our relatives (His creation). God is not pleased by us watching sexual videos and desensitizing ourselves to the spiritual. The enemy is working through this to distract us from what really matters. Remember, God destroyed a city due to sexual sin and destroyed all life on earth due to violence. Sex and violence seem to be in every video now.
The Sex Distraction
Sexual activity in video is just a first step. It has gotten more and more sensual. It continues to devolve. Now that the video producers have no other morals to break they are now broadcasting homosexual activity. This is all a part of satan and the forces of hell’s attack on mankind. To distract us with some much sensuality, that we no longer seek the spiritual.
Total Fulfillment
It’s great to be married and have a wonderful sexually fulfilled relationship. However, it’s time Christians get out the world’s (and hell’s) game. We must stand against pornography and viewing private things that happen in the bedroom. It’s a slippery slope so don’t allow yourself to fall. It’s time to turn off the video, cancel the subscription, and protect our hearts so that we are not distracted by the enemy. Romans 8:14 says those who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God. It’s time to stop being distracted and be led. Sex is wonderful, but the spiritual side of life is even more fulfilling. It’s time to have a healthy sex life, AND a strong spirit! The Word summarizes it perfectly.
15 Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. 16 For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. 17 And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.
